“On constant vigilance”: before a very busy return to school, the first (and last?) summer of the Bayrou government

The final Council of Ministers meeting before the summer break will be held at the Élysée Palace this Wednesday. While François Bayrou doesn't take a vacation, his government intends to catch its breath before embarking on a high-risk budgetary marathon.
By Thomas SouliéIn the Signal "Gouv Bayrou communication" messaging loop, a forum for ministerial advisors, the subject is the subject of political jokes. How should we respond to journalists curious to know if their bosses take vacations? "Mine monetized them," one of them chimes ironically, referring to the Labor Minister's controversial proposal for a fifth week of paid leave . "Let's go on vacation to Paris's second constituency, there's a good atmosphere," laughs another, as Les Républicains are tearing each other apart over this upcoming legislative by-election. "Or in a wind farm," replies a collaborator, after Bruno Retailleau's column against the financing of renewable energy.
As revealed by Politico, a Matignon advisor is trying to remain serious amidst the jokes: "I recommend not mentioning a destination that's too glam (sic), rather in France, and never too far from the files and the teams," he recommends. His boss intends to follow the instruction to the letter. François Bayrou will spend the summer in his Paris office at 57, rue de Varenne (Paris 7th), while making trips once or twice a week to visit "the France that works," according to his entourage.
